    The Heritage House

    Class Details Time: The session starts at 9:00 AM and typically runs for about six hours. Location: Heritage House is located at 4 Sylvania Street, Brookville, PA 15825. Cost: The basic in-person course is free of charge. Requirements: Age: Students must be at least 11 years old to enroll. Independent Study: You must read Chapters 1, 4, 5, and 9 of the "Today's Hunter and Trapper in Pennsylvania" manual before attending. Certification: You must attend the entire session and pass a multiple-choice/true-false exam with a score of 80% or higher to receive your certificate.  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (.gov) +5 Registration Pre-registration is mandatory for all Pennsylvania Game Commission courses.     Please meet at Shelter #2 to learn about our crepuscular friends while helping scientists survey bats & moths along Tom’s Run.  Please bring a light (headlamps with a red or green night-vision filter are best) and a refillable water bottle – we’ll have bat & moth masks for the kids to color.  Program is free – no registration required.  Sponsored by the Cook Forest Conservancy, Pennsylvania Game Commission, and Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry.

    June 14,2026 https://events.dcnr.pa.gov/event/womens-hiking-series Come Nurture your Mental and Physical health during a Sunday evening hike. We will meet at the Ridge Camp Pavilion, in Cook Forest State Park. (Across from the entrance to the Firepower on Rt. 36) Moderate Level Hiking with some rough terrain and a few hills (Not a paved level path). Approximately 2 hours long. Open to all women ages 14 and up. Dogs on a leash. Rain or Shine! Weather permitting and pending interest of the group, we will branch off into two groups. One group will venture onto a more rigorous path while the other group will continue on a path to relax and enjoy being in nature.     ‘Clarion River Boating Program: Gravel Lick-Mill Creek’ Please join us for an interpretive guided float down the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River. Wildlife and lumber history abound along this secluded stretch of the river. Fishing is excellent. Help us document wood duck nesting success, river otter sign, and bald eagle nests while we kayak through the Steel Trap. This is a true wilderness boating experience. No sign of human occupation until we get near the end. Only experienced boaters permitted. Please meet at the Park Office where we will drive to the starting point. Folks must pre- register by 6/22 by contacting the Park Office at (814)744-8407. Registration limited to 10 boats. Cost is $50/boat payable by cash, check or money order made out to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All boats, gear, and lunch provided. Prior Cook Forest kayak training participants receive a 50% discount. Register early, available spots go fast. See you on the river!
