Brookville Chamber Reflects on the Community Response Following Downtown Fire

This past weekend, a fire in Historic Downtown Brookville displaced both a tenant and one of our most unique and well-loved downtown businesses, Pink Flamingos Vintage. While the situation was heartbreaking, what followed was something truly powerful. Our community responded in a way that was nothing short of incredible. Multiple fire departments responded immediately and worked together to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to other floors and neighboring businesses. Their efforts did not stop at suppression. In the midst of it, they took quick, intentional action to protect what they could, helping to preserve pieces that cannot be replaced. That level of effort and care deserves recognition. Inside that boutique lives more than inventory. It’s a carefully curated collection of timeless pieces, some dating back more than 100 years. Vintage hats that have stood the test of time, classic silhouettes inspired by iconic eras, and designer pieces that carry history, craftsmanship, and a story you simply can’t replace. And yet, within hours, neighbors, fellow business owners, and volunteers showed up, carefully relocating these pieces with incredible care and respect for what they represent. As the morning unfolded, community members and local businesses arrived with breakfast sandwiches for the first responders, hot coffee, encouragement, and willingness to step in however they could. There were hugs. There were tears. And there was an overwhelming sense that no one was facing this alone. It was immediate, it was genuine, and it was everything you hope a community will be in a moment like this. And they are not done. In that same spirit, members of our business community are now coming together to host an evening at Temerity Aleworks on Tuesday, May 12th from 5–8pm. Admission by donation. With live music, light snacks, beverages, and a silent auction, this gathering is an opportunity to come together and stand beside a small business owner, a community member, and a friend navigating the aftermath of an unexpected loss. This is about helping her get back on her feet and move forward. Proceeds from the evening will support the restoration of a historic downtown building, assist in relocating the displaced tenant, and help recover and restore the vintage pieces that make this shop so special. It is a meaningful way to be part of the next chapter. Everyone is welcome.

A Bold Brew Rises on Main Street: Grounded Brewings Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

A familiar name from the area’s coffee scene is putting down roots in Historic Downtown Brookville. Grounded Brewings, known for its mobile coffee trailer and imaginative drink menu, is celebrating the opening of its new brick-and-mortar café on Main Street. Owner Jasonna Hockinson launched Grounded Brewings as a mobile coffee trailer in June of 2023, quickly building a following with creative drinks, bold personality, and a style all its own. Now that growing dream has found a permanent home at 130 Main Street, Brookville, bringing its signature look, shadowy charm, creative energy, and handcrafted drinks to Brookville’s downtown coffee scene. Inside the new café, customers will find a full lineup of espresso drinks, lattes, cold brew, Lotus Energy drinks, Red Bull infusions, and specialty creations, all made with carefully sourced beans. Espresso drinks feature the Eliza Furnace blend from Pittsburgh’s De Fer Coffee, while additional coffee offerings come from Aegis Coffee Roasters in DuBois. But Grounded Brewings is about more than what’s in the cup. “I hear people say all the time, ‘I wish we had something different around here.’ Well, here it is,” said Jasonna Hockinson, owner of Grounded Brewings. “I want to bring something comforting, fun, and a little alternative to the area. Watching someone take that first sip and seeing their whole mood brighten is one of my favorite parts of this. I’ve made so many friends traveling with the trailer and meeting people along the way. If you asked me at 16 where I’d be at 26, I probably would’ve said working for NASA. Big switch up… Life had other plans, and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.” Grounded Brewings blends quality coffee with personality. Hockinson is creating a space designed to feel welcoming, relaxed, and a little different. A spot where early risers, night owls, and anyone in need of resurrection by caffeine can slow down, hang out, and brighten their day. Step inside and discover the Prop Swap wall, a fun exchange for plant lovers! Bring a cutting from your own houseplant collection and trade it for another, creating a living collection of greenery shared, grown, and continually refreshed by the community. And for fans of the original setup, the coffee trailer isn’t being laid to rest anytime soon. It will continue making appearances at events, weddings, and pop-ups throughout the warmer months. Join us to welcome Grounded Brewings on Saturday, March 14th with a Grand Opening and Brookville Chamber Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 7:50 a.m. Regular hours will be:Monday–Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Community members are invited to stop in, raise a cup, and help celebrate a young entrepreneur bringing bold flavor, fresh energy, and a little unexpected charm to downtown Brookville. Follow on social media for updates, drink specials, and coffee trailer pop-ups: Facebook and Instagram.

Getting Through Winter: A Blue Monday Event

Winter has a way of weighing on us, especially when it all seems to collide at once and feel overwhelming. Blue Monday is often referred to as the most difficult day of the year. It’s a point when winter challenges tend to peak, including colder weather, post-holiday stress, financial pressures, and New Year’s resolutions that already feel out of reach. This Blue Monday, the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce is creating space for a thoughtful, welcoming conversation that shines a light on feelings we often push aside with a simple “I’m fine,” even when something deeper is going on. We all struggle with it… Now’s the time to talk about it. This event features a panel of knowledgeable professionals who will share practical, real-life tools for navigating seasonal depression, workplace mental health challenges, grief, emotional exhaustion, and those moments when you just feel “off.” Guests will gain insight into recognizing symptoms, understanding available support, and learning strategies that can help make the winter months feel more manageable. This is not a formal lecture, but an approachable discussion designed to inform, encourage, and connect. The evening will be held at Temerity Aleworks, offering a comfortable, relaxed setting that supports open conversation. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, allowing guests to settle in, listen, and engage in a space that feels welcoming rather than clinical. This free community event is open to anyone who could use a little extra support, perspective, or reassurance during the winter season.
