Once Many, Now Few: Moonlite Drive-In Theatre Stands The Test of Time

Date: March 22, 2025 Author: Elliot Park, Brookville Chamber Intern According to DriveInMovie.com, the US has around 300 Drive-In Movie Theaters left in operation, a significant decline in the once popular activity. In the late 1950’s,  Drive-In Movie Theaters hit their peak with roughly 4,000 theaters in operation, seeing a steady decline in the years to follow. Although Pennsylvania has been no exception to the decline of Drive-In theaters, PA has the second most operational theaters in the U.S. with 28 theaters, only trailing New York.  Although experiencing a heavy decline in interest, there are several advantages or in better words benefits of going to a Drive-In Theater compared to going to an indoor theater. First, it tends to be cheaper to attend a Drive-In, especially as a bigger family or group. The well-known carload method of admission into Drive-In theaters provides a much needed reduction in tickets, especially compared to the expensive, individually based tickets at indoor theaters. Drive-In theaters can also provide a more relaxed atmosphere and be more comfortable for patrons. Being in the comfort of your car or other seating arrangements (like lawn chairs), allows you to have space and not be on top of each other like the seating arrangements provided at an indoor theater. This also allows individuals to be able to talk (to an extent) and crack a few jokes or quote different characters throughout their experience, as long as you are not annoying the people in your car. With that in mind,  there are several notable Drive-In Theaters left in PA, and one just happens to be in our community.  Located just a short drive down US Route 322, west of Brookville, sits the Moonlite Drive-In Theatre, a local gem entering its 73rd year of operation. Although Moonlite lets you experience the thrill of such a classic activity, they have made numerous modifications and improvements over the years to best serve their customers and attract customers. One of the newer modifications, which expanded the theatre’s capabilities, was the addition of a second viewing screen. This not only allows the theater to perform more shows and additional movies, but also adds them to a short list of theaters with this capability. Over the years Moonlite has also developed quite the snack bar. They have everything from burgers & pizza to Swedish Fish & cotton candy, oh and don’t forget about ice cream! They also have a wide selection of drinks having various sodas, water, hot chocolate and coffee, and even Tum-e Yummies for the kiddos (the snack bar menu is subject to change). It does not end there; Moonlite’s dedication to deliver what customers want allows them to have a rotating showing schedule highlighting various movies. Showing every type of movie from old-school greats to new, up and coming movies, while also coordinating with events and holidays, Moonlite Drive-In delivers an experience like no other for everyone in the family.  As a business in such a declining industry with declining interest, the Moonlite Drive-In relies heavily among folks in the community and visitors alike, to make their business successful. The support of the concession stand (snack bar) is vital to their success as a whole, making it an imperative to follow the prohibition of outside food and drink. Plus, they have great food and plenty of snack and drink options, so give it a try for yourself and support this local, small business. The 2025 season is just around the corner with plans to kick off around mid-April, giving the parking area enough time to dry out. Admission into the theater costs $20, which allows entry for a carload (up to six individuals), with an additional $10 person person exceeding that amount. The Moonlite Drive-In Theatre is excited for another season bringing a movie packed summer for a successful year in 2025. They welcome everyone to come see a movie (or two), enjoy the experience, and have an unforgettable night with family and friends. Ways to Protect Your Business from Online Security Breaches

Date: March 19, 2025 Author: Elliot Park, Brookville Chamber Intern Continuing the focus on utilizing the internet and social media effectively, it is also important to focus on some of the challenges and consequences of incorporating these into your business. The internet and social media has become more ingrained into our everyday lives and more and more businesses are relying on online networks for personal & professional connection, networking, and business transactions. The significant usage has made online platforms increasingly attractive for malicious hackers, has escalated the potential impact of account hackings, and has made protection a critical component to a business’s digital (online) efforts.  There are numerous ways for hackers to attack your business and obtain potentially sensitive information through social media, including account hijackings & security breaches. One major cause of security breaches is due to phishing attacks, which can cause significant damage to an organization. Phishing attacks most commonly occur when a hacker impersonates a higher entity in the organization and gets an employee to click a link through text message, instant messaging, e-mail, or social media. When an individual clicks the malicious link, malware can be instilled allowing hackers to gain access to your online systems. A phishing attack can hurt a business by revealing sensitive information, freezing systems, identity theft (posing as the business), and theft of information and funds. Another common way for hackers to infiltrate your business is by social engineering. Social engineering is similar to phishing attacks by a hacker impersonating a trusted higher entity of the organization but relies on psychological manipulation to convince victims. Hackers convince business members to share usernames, passwords, and other sensitive information allowing hackers to gain access to more sensitive information while infiltrating the businesses online systems and accounts.  To combat these rising issues there are a variety of strategies and design improvements an organization can take that will also help to improve their overall security measures & flexibility. Some of these strategies & improvements focus more on developing training for employees whereas others are on improving the company’s efforts and measures. Some of the most common and most effective strategies and design improvements include the following: Overall, the instillment of social media and other digital platforms into our everyday lives and the increasing usage among more and more businesses has caused several negative consequences, such as becoming more attractive to hackers and has escalated the potential impact of account & system hackings. The numerous ways for hackers to attack a business has not only made digital (online) protection an important component to a business but has also made it much more challenging and difficult for individuals and businesses to protect themselves. Although businesses are essentially more susceptible to digital attacks there are several simple, yet effective, strategies and design improvements that can be taken to add an extra layer of security. By enabling two-factor authentication, educating and training employees, utilizing firewalls and antivirus software, and regularly performing updates can help to protect your business and employees. Be sure to evaluate your digital (online) efforts and develop strategies and design improvements that fit your businesses protection needs.  Sources: Alber, T. R. (2024, September 21). Brookville Civic Club Getting Kids Hooked on Fishing

March 7, 2025 Author: Brookville Civic Club The Brookville Civic Club is making waves in the community by partnering with Brookville Fly & Bait to provide the first 100 Voluntary Youth Fishing Licenses for Mentored Youth Fishing Day on Saturday, March 29th.  This initiative encourages kids to get outdoors, experience the joys of fishing, and learn a new skill—all while giving back to local waters. In Pennsylvania, the Voluntary Youth Fishing License is more than just a pass to fish—it plays a crucial role in conservation efforts.  Each license triggers a federal reimbursement, whereas a Mentored Youth Permit does not.  By participating in this program, young anglers are not only gaining a new hobby but also contributing to the sustainability of their local waterways. As an added bonus, kids receiving a free license through this program will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates to Brookville Fly & Bait to spend on their fishing journey. The Brookville Civic Club is proud to continue its mission of giving back to the community through initiatives like this.  Please note that this partnership applies only to the Voluntary Youth Fishing License obtained at Brookville Fly & Bait (441 Madison Avenue, Brookville, PA) and does not extend to other license types or locations. We encourage local families to take advantage of this opportunity and introduce their kids to the joys of fishing.  For more information, visit BrookvilleCivicClub.wordpress.com.  To stay up to date on our events and programs, follow us on Facebook!
