Sunday, July 2 at 12:30pm – ‘Tornado Discovery Hike’
On May 1, 2017, the National Weather Service stated that an F0 tornado ripped through the surrounding area and Cook Forest State Park.  Downed swaths of trees were documented in several areas of the park.  Heaviest damage was noted along the Hemlock and Joyce Kilmer Trails.  Numerous ancient and tall trees were lost, but thankfully no one was hurt.  Please meet at the Longfellow Trail trailhead on Forest Road for an interpretive hike into the heart of one of these windthrows that are integral parts of old growth forest ecosystems.  (2 hrs)
