DiscoverE: Penn’s Adventurers (ages 9-12)

The Penn’s Adventurers program is open to children ages 9-12 and is comprised of 12 hours of programming over 3 days.  The Penn’s Adventurers theme this year is “Outdoor Recreation.”  Participants will learn about a variety of outdoor recreations (ie- backpacking, kayaking, archery, fire building, etc.).  There will be activities, walks, and games; all focused on sharpening your outdoor rec skills.  There is no requirement for a parent or guardian to remain during this program.  The program will be held July 11, 12, and 13, 2017, and pre-registration will be required starting summer 2017.

Have you ever thought of getting into the archery hobby, or was just interested in improving your shooting technique?  If so, this basic class on target archery is for you.  We will be teaching proper shooting technique and form as well as safe equipment handling.  Archery equipment provided, no prior archery experience needed.  Participants must pre-register at the Park Office at (814)744-8407 by 7/12.  We are only accepting 20 participants for this course.  Sorry, no children under 10 years old.  Minors must be with a participating adult.  Program begins promptly at the field beside the Park Swimming Pool at the Sawmill Center for the Arts.  (3 hrs)

Learn how to propagate plants such as pansies, calendula, nasturtiums, borage and more.  These annuals will grow into medicinal, ornamental, and culinary herbs that you can sell and/or enjoy for your business or pleasure.  Rusty and Claire, having 20 years of experience at Quiet Creek, will lead you in this hands-on class, teaching you how to make the most of edible flowers.  Cost analysis (retail and wholesale) will be outlined for your financial decision making. You will go home with a variety of plants and your newfound knowledge to sustain your herbs for a lifetime.

Our mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret historically significant and mechanically interesting early stationary internal combustion engines for the education and enjoyment of everyone.

Coolspring Power Museum presents an illuminating history of the evolution of internal combustion engine technology that put an end to the steam powered era.  The museum’s collection includes over 275 stationary engines housed in more than 20 display buildings.

Stationary gas hit and miss engines, throttle governed engines, flame ignition engines, hot tube ignition engines, and hot air engines are all among the permanent exhibits at the Coolspring Power Museum in Coolspring, Pennsylvania.  Engines in the museum’s collection range in size from fractional horsepower up to 600 horsepower.  Please visit our Exhibits page which includes a number of Virtual Tours of the exhibits in the museum’s collection.

Brookville Y CARES for kids benefiting Western PA CARES for Kids Child Advocacy Center will be holding it’s 9th annual duathlon, 5k race and community walk on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at Cook Forest State Park, shelter 2.  Pre-registration and waiver forms will be available online at and at the Brookville YMCA at the beginning of May.  The Pre-registration deadline is June 26th.  An awards ceremony and free lunch will follow the race.  All proceeds help us provide a child friendly coordinated response to child abuse.  For more information visit our website at or call (814) 849-1904.
